Message from Evergreen CEO
Welcome to the 2008 ION Game Conference website! Building on the great success of the 2007 conference, ION 2008 will expand the plenary sessions from two to three days, and feature a wide range of keynotes, sessions, and panels, giving attendees new views of the online game universe—everything from an overview of the latest business, product, and legal developments to in-depth looks at scalability, player psychology, and in-game economic systems. ION features acclaimed networking events, such as the opening night Welcome Reception and the official conference party.
The theme for ION 2008 is “redefining online”. While many consider online games to be a niche market composed only of MMOs or web-based games, the leaders and visionaries in the industry know that online games are the next step in the evolution of our industry. Online is paramount to success for PC products in the Pacific Rim, and the changing landscape for console development worldwide is making online equally essential for developers. The attendees at ION 2008 will be those leaders and visionaries plotting their courses to navigate the challenges and explore the opportunities in the redefined landscape of online game development.
The ION Game Conference is designed for developers, service-providers, and business leaders. Evergreen Events has established ION as a must-attend event for the online game industry, both for developers and business leaders. Almost three hundred and fifty attendees gathered in Seattle for ION 2007, with nine countries and two hundred companies represented.
- The online game space is international, and ION is positioned to be an international conference. Nearly 20% of 2007 attendees were from countries other than the United States, including South Korea, China, Australia, and Germany.
- ION has one of the highest ratios of business leaders for any game development conference. Over 40% of 2007 attendees were senior level executives — CEO’s, CTO’s, general managers, creative directors, technical directors.
- ION has a nearly ideal mix of disciplines for business networking. Nearly a third of 2007 attendees were directly involved in developing the online games for tomorrow, and another third dealt with business leadership.
- Over 10% of 2007 attendees were engineers, most at the senior level.
- When asked to compare ION to other conferences, 41% of 2007 attendees rated the conference as Excellent and 44% rated it as Above Average.
- 72% of 2007 attendees listed Networking as one of their primary reasons for attending.
Just as important who attended is who was not at ION — student-level job seekers and industry hangers-on. ION 2007 represented nothing but pure business and technical prowess.
