Countdown to ION Top Ten Reasons to Attend the 2008 ION Game Conference
Time keeps on ticking down to the doors opening at the second annual ION Game Conference, as we mentioned earlier. Still, we wouldn’t want to encourage you to attend without many good reasons to, especially when we also know how full a calendar can be. We’re at number six and counting down.
Top Ten Reasons to attend the 2008 ION Game Conference
There are many alphabet soup game conferences and conventions out there to “save the date” for. Many of these are omnibus events that attempt to accomplish several different goals under one roof. Trying to figure out which is the right one to invest time and resources into is a lot of white noise for professionals looking for one or two superior conferences to highlight in a year.
The ION Game Conference doesn’t aim to be all things to all people. ION focuses exclusively on the developer and businessperson creating online game experiences. In terms of educational content, networking opportunities, sponsors and attendees, we aim to do nothing more and nothing less than produce one of the online game industry’s best events you’ll find across the world.
Take a look at our sessions and you’ll find it hard to disagree that the focus for the ION Game Conference is all about online game business and development.
The ION Game Conference isn’t a gamble or a shot in the dark. If you’re a senior level member of an online game developer, publisher, content delivery network, outsourcer and other companies that strongly overlap in the online game development space, ION is the conference tailor-made for you.
If you’re ready to register for ION, get started here:
Once you've registered for ION, we definitely recommend booking your stay at the official conference hotel, the Seattle Marriott Waterfront Hotel. Not only are you conveniently located at the center of all the official conference action, you’re staying at one of Seattle’s finest hotels at a specially discounted rate. We've negotiated a special rate of just $209 for ION attendees. Suites are also available at a discounted rate. But hurry, the special ION rate is only valid until April 15, 2008.
New Speakers Announced
We are very pleased to announce we have some amazing additions to speaker lineup. We will be announcing more speakers and sessions over the coming months, so stay tuned for the complete list.
Adam's been working with online and multiplayer games for almost ten years, and still hasn't been tempted to get a "real" job yet. He's done everything from patenting MMO technology to performing a real-life "emergency extraction" by helicopter as part of an alternate reality game. As the CTO for MindCandy, he oversaw development of the live systems and game/web integration for the PERPLEX CITY ARG. He now works for NCsoft on technology and MMO development, with a particular personal interest in finding ways to break online games out of their current cliches - to bring them out of the server and into the wider world. His best advice to online game developers is to remember that hope is not a strategy...
Scott Hartsman’s entire career has taken place in, on, and around online games, worlds, services, and the communities that form around them. He’s a 20 year veteran whose experience has spanned positions all the way from Game Master to CEO. He’s worked on market-leading online products through multiple generations at companies such as Sony Online Entertainment, Interplay, Ameritech, and Simutronics. Earlier this year he left his position running the EverQuest II franchise to pursue new opportunities in online gaming, and has never been more thankful to have worked with many of the industry’s best and brightest along the way.

Time is running out to take advantage of sponsorships, with several sponsorship deadlines ending this week. As an exhibitor/sponsor at ION, you will be able to expose your products and services to some of the most qualified attendees in the industry. You can enjoy meeting with the hundreds of attendees, speakers, and press — all with the common goal of promoting the online game development industry.
